Ruth Jones and James Corden, the creative minds behind the beloved series “Gavin and Stacey,” have announced their collaboration on a forthcoming television comedy.
The duo, celebrated for their portrayals of Smithy and Nessa, revealed details of their latest venture during the concluding event of their book tour for “When Gavin Met Stacey and Everything in Between” in Cardiff.
Entitled “The Choir,” the Apple TV show will feature Jones and Corden as estranged siblings.
The concept originated from their shared familial connection to choirs, with Corden’s mother and Jones’ sister both being members.
Jones stated, “We both feel that choirs, particularly amateur choirs, foster a unique sense of community.”
“The core idea is to unite a diverse group of characters, each with their own backgrounds and life experiences.”
Corden added that they aim “to create a show centered on community and its vital significance.”
“It revolves around individuals who convene weekly to sing and enjoy each other’s company, highlighting the richness of life within that context.”
In addition to this collaboration, Jones is set to appear in the new Netflix series “Run Away,” while Corden recently concluded a Broadway engagement.
“An Evening with James Corden and Ruth Jones” not only looked ahead but also celebrated the enduring success of “Gavin and Stacey” since its debut in 2007, offering behind-the-scenes insights from the creators.
The book tour’s final night featured a special performance by Oscar Hartland, known for his role as Neil the baby, who sang The Beatles’ “Blackbird” from the show’s series finale.
Their memoir was released on October 9th, nearly a year after the show’s record-breaking Christmas Day 2024 finale.
A release date for “The Choir” is yet to be announced.
