Following a narrow defeat at the Players Championship, Matt Fitzpatrick of England rebounded to claim the Valspar Championship title.

Fitzpatrick, who held a one-stroke lead at the Players on the 17th tee last week, saw victory slip away as Cameron Young of the United States secured the win with a clutch birdie-par finish.

However, Fitzpatrick found redemption on Sunday in Palm Harbor, Florida, sinking a 14-foot putt for birdie on the 18th hole to edge out American David Lipsky by a single stroke.

The 31-year-old posted a three-under-par 68 to reach 11 under for the tournament, awaiting the completion of the final two groups before his third PGA Tour victory was confirmed.

“The key for me was maintaining strong play. I aimed to carry that momentum into this week and trusted my abilities,” Fitzpatrick stated, whose last tour win was in 2023.

“Executing that consistently over four rounds made this week truly special.”

Fellow Englishman Jordan Smith, 33, finished third at nine under, marking his best result on the PGA Tour.

Marco Penge, also of England, South Korea’s Sungjae Imm, who led for three rounds, and American Xander Schauffele shared fourth place at eight under.
