Eurostar is advising thousands of passengers to postpone their journeys to and from Paris, anticipating cancellations and delays across its services.
The disruption, according to Eurostar, stems from a “temporary closure of a section of the track on the French network” due to a power failure.
Passengers are encouraged to monitor the Eurostar website and app for the latest updates and developments.
As of Monday, nine trains between London and Paris have been cancelled, with an additional 17 experiencing delays, as indicated on the Eurostar website.
The operator has also confirmed cancellations and delays affecting services between Paris and Brussels, as well as Paris and Amsterdam.
“We advise passengers on these routes to postpone their journey if possible. They can exchange their ticket free of charge or request a full refund,” Eurostar stated.
Other Eurostar routes, including those connecting London and Amsterdam, remain unaffected by the current issue.
Eurostar attributed the problem to “a power failure on the high-speed line” between Moussy and Longueil in France, an issue being addressed by SNCF Réseau, the state-owned rail operator.
SNCF Réseau has informed Eurostar that one track is expected to reopen at 18:30 CET (17:30 BST), which will “allow trains to run again on the high-speed line but with limited service”.
Eurostar added, “Traffic should be able to resume on both tracks tomorrow morning when services start running again.”
The company has deployed additional staff to affected stations to provide assistance to passengers.
These disruptions occur during one of the peak travel periods, with many individuals in the UK embarking on holidays throughout August.
This is not the first instance of disruption to Eurostar services this summer. In June, Eurostar experienced two days of cancellations and disruption following two fatalities in separate incidents on a French railway line.
