‘He still loves me, he’s my dad’ – Chris Eubank Jr

Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr are set to reignite their rivalry this Saturday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, marking nearly seven months since their initial encounter.

Following his victory in a 12-round contest, Eubank aims to extend his family’s dominance over the Benn lineage.

Their fathers, Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank, famously clashed in two world title bouts during the 1990s.

Will Benn avenge his previous defeat in this rematch, or will Eubank prove to be an insurmountable challenge?

Here’s a comprehensive overview of the upcoming event.

Benn landed 215 punches compared to Eubank’s 367 punches in the first fight

The initial bout proved entertaining, but resulted in a clear victory for Eubank over 12 rounds.

Despite appearing weight-drained and performing below his usual standard, Benn was unable to capitalize on Eubank’s condition.

Benn’s failure to utilize his speed and cardio to overwhelm Eubank highlights areas for improvement, with Benn indicating a more conservative approach in the rematch, acknowledging his previous obsession with securing an early knockout.

The punch statistics further underscored Eubank’s triumph, with 367 punches landed compared to Benn’s 215.

Benn landed 180 power punches, while Eubank connected with 227.

Eubank also demonstrated a superior landing percentage, with 40% compared to Benn’s 36%.

All three judges scored the contest 116-112 in favor of Eubank.

What were the scorecards for Eubank v Benn 1?

Following the fight, scorecards revealed split decisions among judges on five occasions – in the second, seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth rounds.

All judges unanimously awarded Eubank the opening round, as well as the fourth, fifth, sixth, eleventh, and twelfth rounds, while Benn unanimously secured the third round.

Eubank brings significantly more experience to the ring, boasting a record of 38 bouts and having faced world champions such as George Groves, Billy Joe Saunders, James DeGale, and Liam Smith.

Eubank’s three defeats came against Smith, Groves, and Saunders. He avenged his loss to Smith, suffered a narrow defeat to Saunders early in his career, and was outclassed by Groves in his sole world title fight.

As the physically larger fighter, Eubank will possess a size advantage, having previously stated that he only needed 60% of his best to defeat Benn.

At 29, Benn is the younger fighter, entering the bout with one defeat in 24 fights. His lack of experience at world title level may have contributed to his shortcomings in the first encounter.

Benn concedes slight disadvantages in both reach and height.

Benn and Eubank were initially slated to fight on October 8, 2022, at the O2 Arena in London. However, Benn’s two failed voluntary drug tests led the British Boxing Board of Control to “prohibit” and refuse to sanction the fight.

The bout was subsequently cancelled 48 hours prior, and Benn embarked on a two-year battle against a potential doping ban.

Inherited rivalry to bona fide hatred – 934 days of Eubank v Benn carnage

Benn was cleared to return in November 2024 after the Board and UK Anti-Doping’s appeal against the National Anti-Doping Panel’s decision to lift his suspension was unsuccessful.
