Emma Watson, best known for her role in the Harry Potter film series, has received a six-month driving ban after being caught speeding.
The actress, who portrayed Hermione Granger in the beloved franchise, was recorded driving at 38mph in a 30mph zone in Oxford on the evening of July 31st of the previous year.
Prior to the speeding offense, Ms. Watson’s driving record already included nine penalty points, the court was informed.
The 35-year-old, currently a student, was ordered to pay a total of £1,044 at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Ms. Watson was not present for the five-minute hearing. Representatives for the actress have been contacted for comment.
Her lawyer, Mark Haslam, conveyed to the court that Ms. Watson is presently pursuing her education, adding, “She is in a position to pay the fine.”
The actress has been studying for a master’s degree in creative writing at the University of Oxford since 2023.
Ms. Watson rose to prominence in 2001 with the release of *Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone*, alongside co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint.
She starred in a total of eight Harry Potter films, concluding in 2011, and has since appeared in films such as *Beauty and the Beast*, *The Bling Ring*, and *The Perks of Being a Wallflower*.
Ms. Watson’s most recent film role was in Greta Gerwig’s 2019 adaptation of *Little Women*. In 2023, she launched a sustainable gin brand with her brother.
A new television adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s *Harry Potter* book series is currently in production, featuring Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, and Alastair Stout as Ron.
The cast also includes John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.

In a separate case, fellow Harry Potter actress Zoe Wanamaker was also fined for speeding on the same day and in the same court as Ms. Watson.
Ms. Wanamaker, known for her role as Madam Hooch in the wizarding series, was caught speeding on August 7, 2024, on the M4 in Newbury, Berkshire.
The 76-year-old was recorded driving at 46mph in a 40mph zone, according to court reports.
She also received a £1,044 fine and a six-month driving ban.
Ms. Wanamaker’s lawyer, Duncan Jones, stated that she was not requesting “special treatment” and accepted the fine.
Similar to Ms. Watson, Ms. Wanamaker had accumulated nine points on her driving licence prior to the speeding incident.
District Judge Arvind Sharma endorsed an additional three points on both actresses’ licenses during sentencing, resulting in a six-month disqualification for each.
