Egypt Sends Another Shipment of Hepatitis C Drugs to Tashkent

A fourth shipment of Sofosbuvir-400mg, a medication for Hepatitis C, has arrived in Tashkent from Sharm El Sheikh, reports the Dunyo News Agency.

In line with Uzbekistan’s National Program for the Elimination of Hepatitis C by 2030, these medicines will be distributed to patients seeking treatment at the Virology Research Institute of the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan.

According to the Uzbek Embassy in Cairo, the Egyptian government has already sent 12.4 tons of Daclatasvir and Sofosbuvir – medications used to treat Hepatitis C – to Uzbekistan in 27 shipments throughout 2023-2024. The total value of these drugs amounts to $1.4 million USD.

“Expert estimates indicate that the Hepatitis C medications provided by the Egyptian government contribute significantly to cost savings for the national budget. These savings will allow for an increase in population screening for Hepatitis C and other latent viruses, facilitating the complete elimination of this disease by 2030,” the statement reads.
