Davis Faces Battery and Kidnapping Allegations Ahead of Paul Bout

Gervonta Davis has held the WBA lightweight title since 2023

Gervonta Davis, the reigning lightweight world champion, is facing a new lawsuit alleging an assault against a former girlfriend, just two weeks before his scheduled exhibition bout with Jake Paul.

Courtney Rossel, an ex-girlfriend of the 30-year-old boxer, filed a civil lawsuit in Miami-Dade County, Florida, on Thursday, accusing Davis of battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Rossel is seeking compensatory and punitive damages “of over $50,000” (£38,145), and has requested a jury trial.

Davis is scheduled to face Jake Paul in an exhibition match in Miami on November 14.

Most Valuable Promotions, the fight promoters, released a statement on Saturday saying they have launched an investigation following the filing of the lawsuit.

“At this time, we are gathering information and reviewing the details to ensure any decision we make is thoroughly vetted,” the statement read.

“We unequivocally condemn any form of violence and are committed to handling this matter with diligence and respect for all involved.

“We will make a determination on next steps once we have completed our review and consulted with the appropriate parties.”

According to the complaint, Davis allegedly attacked Rossel at her workplace on October 27 and had previously issued death threats.

Rossel further alleges that there were “at least” four prior instances in which Davis “physically assaulted and choked” her.

The lawsuit states that Rossel is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and is seeking therapeutic treatment.

This development comes two months after a domestic violence case against Davis was dropped involving another former girlfriend.

Davis was also previously arrested on battery domestic violence charges in February 2020 and December 2022.

In 2023, Davis served 44 days in jail for violating the terms of a 90-day house arrest sentence, related to a criminal hit-and-run case in Baltimore in November 2020.

Representatives for Davis have declined to comment, citing the ongoing legal matter.
