Dani Dyer has been forced to withdraw from this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing due to a fractured ankle.
The TV personality, 29, sustained the injury during training on Friday, explaining that she “landed funny.” A subsequent scan on Monday confirmed the fracture.
“To say I’m heartbroken is the biggest understatement,” Dyer stated in an official release.
The injury occurred after Dyer participated in the pre-recorded launch show, which aired on Saturday, but prior to the commencement of the first competitive week.
Dyer, who rose to prominence on Love Island, was partnered with professional dancer Nikita Kuzmin during the launch program.
She elaborated: “I had a fall on Friday in rehearsals and landed awkwardly. Initially, I believed I had only rolled my foot, but significant swelling developed over the weekend. An MRI scan yesterday revealed a fractured ankle.”
“Apparently, performing the quickstep with a fracture is not advisable (!), and medical professionals have advised me against dancing. Consequently, I’ve had to withdraw from the show.”
She added: “I am incredibly disappointed that I will miss dancing with Nikita, but I will undoubtedly be watching closely and supporting all of the couples.”
Sarah James, the show’s executive producer, commented that Dani and Nikita’s partnership had “got off to the most sensational start,” adding that “everyone associated with the show is incredibly saddened that she is no longer able to participate in this year’s series.”
“We extend our heartfelt wishes for a swift recovery, and we sincerely hope to welcome her back to the ballroom in the future.”
Judge Shirley Ballas joined others in sending well wishes via Instagram, stating: “I’m so so sorry. But health is most important. Get well soon Angel.”
Fellow dancer Dianne Buswell wrote: “I’m so sorry Dani and Nikita. We will miss you so much xx.”
Professional dancer Johannes Radebe commented: “Gutted for you both, take care of yourself.”
Dyer is the second celebrity to withdraw before the competition’s commencement, following Game of Thrones actor Kristian Nairn.
The new series, set in Stratford-upon-Avon, will premiere on 24 September.
Saturday’s launch show featured a performance by last year’s winners, Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell, as well as a musical performance by pop star Jessie J.
Amy Dowden reveals she “didn’t know what she would wake up with” after undergoing a double mastectomy.
The football pundit and former Birmingham City Women’s player is slated to appear in Strictly Come Dancing 2025.
