The Carbon Removers, a firm specializing in carbon capture, has secured nearly £1 million in support from South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE).
This funding will enable the Crocketford-based company to launch a significant fundraising campaign, aimed at removing one million tonnes of carbon annually by 2030.
The investment is strategically designed to unlock further capital and facilitate the company’s expansion across the UK and into European markets.
The Carbon Removers focus on capturing and storing CO2 emitted from organic processes such as fermentation, whisky distillation, and biogas plant operations.
Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes emphasized the critical role of carbon capture and storage in Scotland’s climate and economic transition to net zero.
“It’s encouraging to see SOSE backing a local company that is leading the way, both domestically and in Europe,” she stated.
“This initiative will create additional employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth across the region and throughout Scotland.”
Richard Nimmons, co-founder of The Carbon Removers, expressed pride in the company’s southern Scotland roots and enthusiasm for expanding its carbon capture expertise internationally.
Russel Griggs, chair of SOSE, noted, “We have been closely involved with The Carbon Removers from their inception, including their crucial role in the Covid Pfizer vaccine rollout.”
“They have since evolved and diversified into international carbon removal and storage, all while maintaining their base in the small village of Crocketford.”
