Bronze: England Among World’s Most Adaptable Teams

Lucy Bronze scored in Friday’s resounding 6-0 victory over Portugal.

England’s adaptable playing style will be key in their upcoming match against reigning World Champions Spain on Tuesday (18:00 BST), according to Lucy Bronze.

A Lionesses win secures top spot in their Women’s Nations League group and a semi-final berth.

However, Spain, currently leading Group A3 by two points, only needs a draw at Espanyol’s RCDE Stadium in Barcelona to claim first place.

“We know how to beat Spain, and they know how to beat us. It’s a clash of two top teams,” stated right-back Bronze.

“We’re arguably one of the most versatile teams globally, capable of possession-based play, swift counter-attacks, and incisive through balls.

“Our squad boasts a blend of pace and technical skill, a refined strategy honed over several years.

“Every moment demands focus; many teams are incredibly diverse in their approach.

“We’re evolving as a team, constantly discussing adaptability and tactical adjustments for different opponents.”

Spain defeated England 1-0 in the 2023 World Cup final, but England overturned the result with a victory at Wembley in February.

They enter Tuesday’s game with considerable momentum following their impressive 6-0 win against Portugal.

Aggie Beever-Jones impressed with a hat-trick, but faces competition for a starting role with the return of Arsenal striker Alessia Russo from injury.

Manager Sarina Wiegman has a wealth of talent to choose from, including Ella Toone’s return from injury, along with Georgia Stanway, Lauren Hemp, and Alex Greenwood regaining full fitness.

Manchester United midfielder Grace Clinton will miss the game due to suspension.

“Top players are returning and performing exceptionally well this season. Both teams are in similar positions heading into the [Euros],” noted Bronze, referring to Euro 2025, commencing July 2nd in Switzerland.

“Consider England, Spain, Germany, and France – several teams are similarly positioned.

“However, the last Euros and World Cup showed how closely contested matches can be. We can outplay any team, but so can they.”

This is the final match before Wiegman announces her 23-player Euros squad on Thursday, June 5th, and she admits to being “very close” to a decision.

“We want to analyze Tuesday’s game before making final decisions, but we’re nearing completion,” stated Wiegman.

“It’s a challenging situation; we’re finalizing the squad while also preparing for a crucial match.

“Our immediate focus is winning Tuesday’s game, but the bigger picture is Euro preparation.”
