Reece Prescod secured the British 100m title in both 2017 and 2018.
British sprinter Reece Prescod has announced his retirement from athletics, citing the sport’s profound impact on him “physically, mentally, and emotionally” in ways he “never imagined possible.”
The 29-year-old’s decision marks the end of a decade-long professional career, which included participation in three World Championships and the 2020 Olympic Games.
Prescod ranks as the fourth-fastest British man in the 100m, boasting a personal best of 9.93 seconds, just a tenth of a second shy of Zharnel Hughes’ national record.
His achievements include a silver medal in the 100m at the 2018 European Championships in Berlin, as well as a bronze in the 4x100m relay at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene.
Prescod, a London native representing Enfield and Haringey Athletic Club, reached the semi-finals of the 100m at Tokyo 2020, marking his sole Olympic appearance.
“Athletics has imparted invaluable lessons, underscoring the true meaning of hard work, dedication, and discipline,” Prescod stated in a post on his Instagram account., external
“I have been fortunate enough to travel the world, compete at the highest level, and represent my country with pride.”
“I look forward to contributing to sport and performance in new, meaningful ways, inspiring others to chase their potential with the same passion that drove me.”
