Jofra Archer showcased his prowess with a 2-16 spell as Southern Brave convincingly defeated a struggling Birmingham Phoenix by nine wickets in the Men’s Hundred.

Archer, alongside New Zealand spinner Michael Bracewell (3-10), effectively restricted Phoenix to a modest 106-7. Joe Clarke’s 36 and Ben Duckett’s 20 were the only notable contributions for the Birmingham side.

The Brave’s bowling attack, spearheaded by Archer and Chris Jordan, delivered a formidable performance, maintaining control from the outset after winning the toss.

Duckett was caught behind off Jordan, while Bracewell bowled Jacob Bethell for one. Archer then dismissed Liam Livingstone for 12 and later had Clarke caught at mid-off, effectively extinguishing Phoenix’s hopes of setting a competitive target.

In response, Brave initiated their chase cautiously, reaching 28-0 during the 25-ball powerplay. They subsequently accelerated their scoring rate, before James Vince departed for 41 off 30 balls, following a 75-run opening stand with Leus du Plooy.

Du Plooy remained unbeaten on 48 from 39 balls, while former England opener Jason Roy contributed 18, guiding their team to the below-par target with 19 balls to spare.

With this victory, Brave join defending champions Oval Invincibles at the top of the table, boasting two wins from two matches. Conversely, Phoenix have suffered defeats in both of their opening encounters.
