BBC Retains Champions League Highlights Rights Through 2031

The Champions League will feature 36 clubs with each team contesting eight matches against different opponents in the league phase.

The BBC has secured the rights to broadcast highlights of the men’s Champions League for an additional four seasons, extending through the 2030-31 campaign.

Highlights from Europe’s premier club competition have been available on the BBC since the 2024-25 season, under the terms of a prior three-year agreement.

Alex Kay-Jelski, Director of BBC Sport, commented: “The Champions League represents the pinnacle of European club football, and we are pleased to offer a free-to-air option for fans eager to catch every goal and key moment.”

“This agreement reinforces our commitment to delivering a comprehensive football portfolio, ensuring audiences can access top-tier coverage across BBC TV, iPlayer, Sounds, radio, and digital platforms.”

Highlights will continue to be broadcast from 22:00 on Wednesdays during match weeks on BBC TV, BBC iPlayer, and the BBC Sport website and app, with clips also accessible online and via social media channels.

A dedicated Match of the Day program will also air on BBC One following the news on Wednesday evenings.

The program, also available on iPlayer, will provide viewers with comprehensive coverage of all goals, reactions, and analyses from the week’s Champions League matches.

The BBC Sport website and app will further enhance coverage with live text updates, news reports, and in-depth analysis, while BBC Radio 5 Live will continue to offer live commentary for select matches.

The renewed Champions League deal builds upon the BBC’s existing portfolio of domestic football rights, which includes Premier League highlights and live FA Cup coverage.

This development follows the acquisition by US media conglomerate Paramount of rights to broadcast Champions League matches in the UK for a four-year period starting in 2027.

The BBC’s broader football portfolio also encompasses the men’s and women’s World Cups, Men’s Euro 2028, the Women’s Super League, and the Women’s Champions League.

BBC Sport’s extensive coverage also includes the Olympic Games, Wimbledon Championships, The Open, Six Nations, and rugby league’s Super League.
