Mirra Andreeva expressed gratitude to a fan for a “lucky charm” following her French Open third-round victory over Yulia Putintseva.
A small, colorful fabric patch adorned her bench during the 6-3, 6-1 win against the 32nd-seeded Kazakh player.
“A little girl placed a drawing on my bench before I went on court, and I kept it. It’s become my lucky charm,” the 18-year-old explained.
“To that little girl, wherever you are, thank you—it’s truly my lucky charm.”
This marks Andreeva’s third French Open appearance. She’s currently enjoying a strong run, having secured titles at Indian Wells and the Dubai Tennis Championships earlier this year.

Andreeva broke Putintseva’s serve three times in the opening set and once more to lead 2-1 in the second, before a brief rain interruption.
Following the delay, Putintseva briefly rallied to a 3-2 lead. However, Andreeva responded by winning the subsequent four games, securing her place in the fourth round where she faces close friend Daria Kasatkina.
Kasatkina, competing in her first Grand Slam since switching allegiance to Australia, defeated tenth seed Paula Badosa 6-1, 7-5.
Third seed Jessica Pegula staged a comeback victory over former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova, winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
The American, absent from last year’s clay-court Grand Slam, aims for a second quarter-final appearance in Paris.
Pegula will next face Lois Boisson (world ranking 361) after Boisson’s 6-3, 0-6, 7-5 win over compatriot Elsa Jacquemot.
