Alisson has played 235 Premier League games for Liverpool
Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, has confirmed that goalkeeper Alisson will be unavailable for the upcoming match against Chelsea on Saturday due to an injury sustained during the game against Galatasaray.
The 32-year-old Brazilian was substituted by Giorgi Mamardashvili in the 56th minute of the 1-0 Champions League defeat in Istanbul.
Alisson left the field after making a save from Victor Osimhen, who scored the decisive goal. Striker Hugo Ekitike also had to be replaced after appearing to strain himself while reaching for the ball.
Slot indicated that the Brazil international reported feeling discomfort while “sprinting back.”
“When a player is on the ground, I tend to anticipate the worst-case scenario, meaning they are unable to continue,” Slot stated.
“It’s never a positive sign when a player exits the game in that manner. Rest assured, he will not be participating on Saturday.”
Mamardashvili is now in contention for his Premier League debut at Stamford Bridge, having been acquired from Valencia in the summer transfer window for £29m.
Alisson previously missed 10 Premier League fixtures last season due to a hamstring injury.
Concerns also surround Ekitike, who was withdrawn during the second half.
“I wasn’t initially aware of an injury, but Hugo reported feeling something,” Slot added.
“He indicated he couldn’t carry on, necessitating his substitution. We will assess his condition ahead of the weekend.”
