Major Fire Engulfs 170 Structures in Japan’s Largest Urban Blaze in Decades

A significant fire has swept through the city of Oita, located on the Japanese island of Kyushu, according to local authorities. The blaze has damaged at least 170 structures, prompting widespread evacuations.

Aerial footage revealed the extent of the fire, estimated to cover an area equivalent to seven football fields, as it consumed numerous residential buildings in proximity to a fishing port.

Reports indicate that this is the most extensive urban fire in Japan since 1976, excluding incidents triggered by seismic activity.

Local media outlets have reported one fatality, while the cause of the fire remains under official investigation.
